COO Business Management Analyst

Centrica Energy Trading is the trading arm of Centrica Plc. We trade LNG, Gas, Power, Renewables and Environmental Products, encompassing proprietary trading as well as hedging execution on behalf of Centrica group entities.

Working within our COO Business Management team the Business Management Analyst will play a key role in the co-ordination of new business requirements enabling the business to prioritise a variety of initiatives, projects and new product rollouts to best deliver against our business strategy.

This is a London based role (offices close to Marble Arch) which will require some time in the office as well as remote working.

Role accountabilities:

Commercial management

  • Facilitate commercial prioritisation by assisting in managing commercial governance forums (e.g., agendas, notes taking, tracking action items)
  • Oversee all aspects of operationalising front office trading strategies:
  • Provide a strategic overview of what is required within the group to support the growth in the Power, Gas and Environmental Products business, ensuring that systems, processes, resources and associated capabilities are put in place accordingly.
  • Steer the relevant functional areas to successfully deliver the Power & Gas strategy ensuring that growth in Front Office Trading is matched by necessary developments in support function capabilities. These are likely to include Digital Technology Services (DTS), Legal, Compliance (encompassing Regulatory) and HR.
  • Prioritise resources for multiple competing Power & Gas projects by assessing various factors such as size of potential benefit, complexity of implementation, and strategic fit
  • Align with the Business Managers and colleagues within overseas offices to get a joint view on the development of the overall trading platform.


Interface to Functions

  • Act as the central coordinator for all new business propositions
  • Communicate the commercial strategy to the business support functions and secure resources for User Acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Prioritise and coordinate business requirements and delivery
  • Discuss with functions areas of operational weaknesses / control gaps
  • Drive improvement of functions / ensure functional standards are applied, and the cost / benefit of functional services is properly managed for the business.


Desk level governance

  • Support Trading Desk Heads with administrative tasks
  • Assist with managing the trader onboarding process, including system and subscription access requests
  • Maintain External System Access for EM&T Front Office Trading and business support functions, including trading platforms and exchanges.


The Person:

  • Understanding of Energy Commodities trading (e.g., Power, Gas, Environmental Products) and some knowledge of trading platforms would be useful but is not essential
  • Understanding of key processes such as pre-trade, trade lifecycle and post-trade would be useful but is not essential
  • Ability to operationalise commercial strategy and manage end-to-end new product implementations
  • Strong analytical and process management skills – able to identify, prioritise, manage and juggle multiple high-priority development items
  • Experience of delivering business change and growth initiatives would be useful but is not essential
  • Appreciation of the operational realities of running a business.
  • Financial and commercial acumen
  • Clear, confident & concise written and oral communicator.
  • Confidence and credibility – take responsibility and ownership of Business Management activities
  • Relationship building – willing and able to establish, build and sustain strong professional relationships with relevant groups both inside and outside Centrica
  • Determined and able to persist through problems and resistance to deliver the required objectives.
