Senior LNG Trading Analyst

With over 15 years of experience, our LNG business makes our value proposition truly global, with cargoes delivered almost anywhere in the world. Our commercial business consists of traders and originators that close complex deals, operators and marine assurance with extensive industry experience, and analysts that help structure and value agreements in the market.

With a presence through the entire value chain, holding liquification buy contracts, ownership of long-term charter ships, re-gas capacity, and financial and physical trading, we’ve built a global LNG business that delivers cargoes almost anywhere in the world. Through our trading operations in both London and Singapore, we’ve transacted hundreds of trades, concluded many charterers, and manage over a hundred active master sales and purchase agreements.

This is a senior role where LNG deal valuation, optionality (including modelling and quantitative skills) and structuring skills are important. This is a Senior LNG Trading Analyst position with a need for strong commercial acumen for one of Centrica’s key growth areas. It is also a role that demands very strong global energy market experience.

The team has two main focus areas:

-Short-term LNG Trading: Contributing towards P&L and cash delivery in the short-term through providing pro-active market trading analysis, bespoke insights into retail drivers, coupled with excellent collaboration with key stakeholders across other front-office commodity functions

-LNG Business Development: Structured deals’ (e.g. Gas to Power) analysis, ‘new market’ and global trading trends and counterpart/competitor analysis for mid to long-term deal making.

The LNG market is constantly changing and you will be asked to take on high paced analytical challenges. This a front office role in which the successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to facilitate insights for short-term trading and mid/long-term origination.

For Short-term Trading:

-Build front office tools to model trading opportunities as well as analyse pre-deal evaluation of risk and reward

-Maintain systems and processes designed to ensure accuracy and ease of use for initial LNG deal valuation, deal structure recommendations and finally deal booking

-Reconcile exposure and P&L between partnering functions like Product Control, Finance and Front Office models

-Assist financial trading analysis (options, derivatives and financial engineering techniques) and asset-backed trading in the LNG space

-Deliver bespoke market analysis through first-class interpretation of fundamental drivers (for example Asian/Chinese growth markets).

For Business Development:

-Provide structuring analysis to LNG Business Developers; modelling their proposed transactions on a standalone basis while also demonstrating incremental portfolio value of these transactions

-Support development of a portfolio model in which the aggregate LNG Portfolio under management by Centrica (beyond the next two years) is understood and from which we can assess portfolio value and exposure

-Perform market analysis particularly with respect to emerging markets (e.g. China and Asia) to identify target customers and understand the decision-making process.

For LNG Team and EM&T Leadership:

-Interface with teams across EM&T and Centrica, including Quant Analytics, Finance and Risk functions to develop the LNG Analytics modelling capability with a focus on maximising extrinsic value

-Produce insights on LNG pricing data, exposure, P&L and news.

The Person:

-Strong experience of working in LNG Trading and wider energy trading environment

-Excellent market modelling skills, in particular global LNG and gas markets

-Knowledge and understanding of LNG Shipping and commercial LNG contracts

-Experience in supporting commercial decision making (including PnL and hedging monitoring)

-Understanding of valuing, pricing, risk and optionality embedded in LNG transactions and related derivative positions

-Strong Excel and advanced modelling skills – working knowledge of Python would be preferred

-Understanding of commodity markets (including financial markets and its derivatives)

-Excellent interpersonal/team working skills and be an excellent communicator.
